Sighing Day

It’s been a week since Signing Day, but we’re not closer to sorting through the rubble. Some overly optimistic sources rank USC’s incoming recruiting class as high as fourth, while the more realistic ones put it around seventh. But at least there’s one thing they can all agree on: As usual, Pete Carroll isn’t first.

Perhaps I overreacted just a bit. Firing Pete Carroll in the middle of the season might be a bit rash. Though if it were to happen, I’d be all for it, just as the fans of Auburn are dancing in the streets now that the so called “offensive guru,” new offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, has been shown the door. Their dismal efforts (both in victories and defeats) so far this season reminds me a lot of USC as of late. Hey, come to think of it, when Pete is finally thrown out, maybe he should take his “defensive know-how” and combine it with Franklin’s “offense” to create an unstoppable team. They’d be number one year after year…in ESPN’s Bottom 10.

The Worst of the East

Props to Arizona State. Sure they lost by 17 points, but only because they had the guts to schedule an SEC team (Georgia), while my Trojans are stuck with their “showcase” game being against an Ohio State team that couldn’t even put up a good fight in its two consecutive National Championship appearances even after losing only one regular season game the past two years.
Meanwhile, Georgia is a team that had an argument for being included in the National Championship game last year but had to settle for pounding Hawaii by THIRTY-ONE points, and they look poised to make it all the way this season if they can get through the relentlessly grueling punishment that is an SEC schedule with only one or two losses.
